When Kristi Hemmer, M.Ed. was eight years old at Kennedy School in Dubuque, she declared she would like to be President, start her own school, write a book like Judy Blume, and circumnavigate the world like Ferdinand Magellan. Today, Kristi is President. Of her own company - AWE INC. She started her own school - Academy for Women's Empowerment. She published Quit Being So Good: Stories of an Unapologetic Women on International Women's Day, 2021. And she has traveled to 75 countries solo - including the Strait of Magellan. As an educator for 20 years (with her undergrad from UNI), her big question Why do girls and women shrink in a classroom, a boardroom, a conversation? inspired her to start her own public benefit corporation in 2013. Kristi's MOXIEmission is to put more women in power, because when women lead, retention, morale, innovation, engagement, revenue, and belonging go up. Sheri Purdy - "How to better enjoy this RIDE called LIFE!"
Sheri has worked at MercyOne Hospital for 30 years and currently serves as the Manager of the Rehabilitation and Wellness departments. She oversees seven different Physical and Occupational Therapy clinics and the Wellness Center at Kimball Ridge in Waterloo, where she also teaches four fitness classes each week. Additionally, Sheri is one of MercyOne's Culture Coaches for the entire system. Sheri holds a Master's Degree in Public Health and has been a Nationally Certified Personal Trainer through the American Council on Exercise (ACE) for the last 35 years. For the past 10 years, she has also taught Personal Wellness and Nutrition classes as an adjunct instructor at Hawkeye Community College. Sheri has been married to Troy, a firefighter, for 29 years. They have two grown children and welcomes a son-in-law this past year. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends, particularly on hot summer days by the pool. Sheri also loves traveling, cooking, gardening, and working out. She has always had a passion for sports and continues to stay active in many of them. Volunteering is another passion of hers. In the past, she has coached several sports, served on the Goodwill Board of Directors, been a member of her church's Parish Council, and was the Booster Club President at her children's high school. She also served on the School Board. Currently, Sheri volunteers by teaching 2nd-grade Junior Achievement for the Bosco School System every year. Some of Sheri's notable accomplishments (besides her children) include receiving the Heroes Among Us Award in 2021, the Goodwill Volunteer of the Year Award, and being named one of the 20 Under 40 for the Cedar Valley. Sheri's passion is helping others become healthier and happier. Throughout her career, she has delivered hundreds of talks focused on managing stress to better enjoy "this ride we call life!" Because it truly is a GREAT and exciting ride! Being well isn't just about avoiding illness; it's about taking care of yourself mentally and physically to get the most enjoyment out of life.
